Heroes of the Storm
Some of us play HotS. Others might be considering it. Let's start things off proper with a (long) list of good advice.

http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/heroes/4...league-101

It's quite a long read but the advice is generally very solid. (Although I personally think Brightwing also would've made a good support in his example composition. It's a common Illidan-counter and synergizes with the mobility that both Falstad and Illidan's The Hunt ulti can bring.)

What you need to understand about the apocalypse is that you aren't Mad Max. You're part of the skull pyramid in the background.

Thanks. I needed that Grin

EDIT: Also, it seems to me that just having a consistent team with planned hero picks and voice comm gives you a serious edge.

RE: Heroes of the Storm
So, I have 7K gold and I want to expand my roster. I already have 2 ranged assassins and a warrior; I'd like to add a support and/or a specialist. Any suggestions? (I can also save some if frex Brightwing is a must-have.)

RE: Heroes of the Storm
No hero is really a must-have on their own. Especially not in a week when Brightwing is free. Wink

Let's take a look.

Support

Malfurion: fairly all-round decent, has some heals, some mana restore, some roots. Nothing spectacular and doesn't perform well in professional competitive league because he has no big burst of healing. But not bad either and is fairly forgiving to a new player.

Li Li: much like Malfurion, not good for competitive league (her big healing ultimate can be canceled with a stun or knockback) but she's very easy to pick up and use.

Tassadar: highly versatile and very strong in competitive leagues. For a beginning player hard to make the most out of it though.

Uther: solid direct heals and stuns. Easy to use and strong. Very solid choice.

Rehgar: good in competitive leagues due to his "and now this guy is fully healed" ultimate. Otherwise only average.

Tyrande: stuns, long-range snipes (if you have the skill to aim), and the ability to make enemies take more damage. The most "offensive" of the healers and shines particularly when used in combination with certain other heroes, such as Diablo.

Brightwing: passive AoE heal bursts, teleportation, polymorphing enemies... yeah, BW is the most expensive support for a reason. Still not must-have and requires very good map awareness to make the most of her teleportation.

Specialist

Gazlowe: easy to use, effective against AI, but generally quite weak. He lacks range and mobility so he's easy to pick off by human players.

Sgt. Hammer: The AI does not know how to deal with this kind of range, which makes Hammer just obliterate AI teams. But humans can deal with the immobile artillery just fine. Effective at killing forts but make sure to never wander out alone against human opponents.

Zagara: versatile summoner. Can do a lot of damage, quickly move around, and the Devouring Maw ultimate can turn the tide of battle in a big team fight.

Nazeebo: the specialist that actually is more like a very tanky assassin. He hurts people, traps them inside zombie mobs, and heals himself by leeching out souls. The jack of all trades of HotS.

Abathur: this guy is only as good as the rest of his team... meaning he's usually terrible. In order to play Abathur well you need perfect map awareness, you need to know how every other hero works, and you need a good team. Otherwise, avoid.

Azmodan: very solid at pushing two lanes at once, decent enough damage for team fights. Bit immobile so easily picked off though. Requires good map awareness and has the tools to really punish people for not being in their lanes. On some maps (Sky Temple, Garden of Terror) this is great. On smaller maps (Haunted Mines, Tomb of the Spider Queen) this is nearly worthless.

Murky: the immortal murloc... can actually do loads of damage at higher levels but a competent human team won't let you pull off the combos. Against mediocre players, however, he can be a very persistent annoyance.

Sylvanas: paralyze towers and mercs, solid damage, decent mobility to escape, and an AoE silence for team fights. Excellent specialist.

The Lost Vikings: control three vikings at once. If you're really skilled, you can do great. If you're not... then might as well go afk. In my opinion the amount of skill you need to control them well is a bit too high compared to what you get out of them. Recently got a small nerf too.

Suggestions:
If you want a support now, Uther. Otherwise save up for Brightwing.
If you want a specialist now, Zagara. Otherwise save up for Ty- Sylvanas.

What you need to understand about the apocalypse is that you aren't Mad Max. You're part of the skull pyramid in the background.

Awesome! Many thanks.

Question, though: Tyrande isn't a specialist, right? Are you suggesting I should pick a support Tongue?

Ah, right.

I guess I'll play Brightwing for a bit now he's on free rotation and look at my options some longer. Map awareness is the next thing I wanted to work on anyway.

RE: Heroes of the Storm
Good choice. She's got some nice quotes too, Brightwing is a delightfully chirpy psychopath.

"Let's make their insides... outsides."
"You sure are good at murder!"
"This will only hurt until you die..."
"That was easy! Killing you was easy!"

All the "WP and funny moments" videos are good, but this one in particular has some great moments.

There are many good videos of this type by now, but I urge Mel to watch this one particular bit.
